Lofran recommends that you consider the amount of space available above and under the deck when selecting the proper type of anchor windlass. A Lofrans vertical windlass features a vertical rotation in relation to the deck which allows a reduced volume above deck as the electric motor and the gear box are sitting in the chain locker. Also keep in mind that the height between the top of the stacked chain and the underdeck must be 300 mm minimum in order to ensure a fast dropping of the chain in the locker and an optimum performance of the windlass.
Lofrans Vertical Windlass Options
Lofrans Vertical Winlasses come with the following options - be sure to select the one that is right for you:
Size
Lofrans Vertical windlasses come in the following sizes, measured in watts:
Lofrans 500: 500w or 700w motor
Lofrans Project 1000: 1000 motor
Lofrans Project 1500: 1500w and 1700w motor
Lofrans Project 2000: 2300w motor
Voltage

Low Profile or Capstan
Lofrans Vertical windlasses can come Low Profile or with a capstan. When the clutch on the windlass gypsy is disengaged, the capstan can be used separately to snug the vessel to another boat or up to the quay. A low profile is preferable if you are shipping it on a vessel where weight is a concern such as a sailboat where you want to keep the center of gravity low.
Extra Deck Clearance (XDC)
If your vessel's deck is more than 4" thick, you may want to consider purchasing a unit with extra deck clearance.
